Today we headed to Paradise, MI about 45 min from our campground. It is close to here that we found the Point Iroquois Lighthouse. This lighthouse shone its light over one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world - the entrance to the St. Mary's River and the Soo Locks. As you can imagine, there are many lighthouses on Lake Superior, most of them no longer in service. This part of St. Mary's River (off of Lake Superior) is known for its graveyard of old shipwrecks caused by the treacherous waters. We were surprised to see the sandy shoreline. The picture of the large freightliner taken from the top of the lighthouse also shows a Canadian lighthouse (no longer functioning).

Our next stop was Tahquamenon (Tuh-qwa-muh-non) Falls State Park where we hiked to both the Lower Falls and Upper Falls.

Tomorrow we move on West to Munising, MI, on Lake Superior. There we will be touring the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, (www.picturedrocks.com).
