This sure shows the shift in the layers of rock and sandstone.

We decided to take the truck to the park today so we wouldn't be limited by a time table (3:00 shuttle back home). We watched the short video at the visitors center, then got on the park shuttle. Our first stop was a short walk to get a better view of the three patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. (photo)

From the lodge stop we took the hike to Upper Emerald Pool, about a 1 mile hike. It was classified as a moderate hike, whereas yesterday's walk was truly a "walk". But a lot of it was in the shade and today was a little cooler than yesterday, 105 instead of 110.

Back at the lodge we had ice cream, beer and Dave had a piece of pizza. Sounds like a true mountain-hiking lunch, doesn't it? I only drink a beer if I know I'm not going to hike any more!

We went to the IMAX Theater for the movie about Zion. It was very good and they said 2 things in the movie that describe my feelings here:

1) I am in awe of the majesty that God created.

I liked that but like I said, I'm not the religious type, so I really liked this next one...

2) Geology interprets what we see but it doesn't explain our feelings.

That's exactly how I feel, I just couldn't put it into my own words!

I think this might be my favorite National Park. I don't know, maybe I'll have to go see Yosemite again.....it's been about 50 years!! We leave here tomorrow :(
