We meet our last day with a tear in our eyes! We decided to go to the Friday market at Ventimeglia in Italy, last stop on the Train Regionale Expresse in France. It did not disappoint! From olives to cannelloni the food market offered a feast for the senses - taste as well as sight. The pictures speak for themselves.

We jumped back on the TER and headed to Monaco. The principality is only 1.95 square kilometres, but under a blazing, hot sun it seemed like 10 kilometres!! We went to the Palais Princier, took in the Notre-Dame and la Musee Oceanographie where Jacques Cousteau was director for over 30 years. Stunning architecture!

We then headed across the Fontvieille Harbour (aka Port of Excess) to see the Casino Monte-Carlo. The only place, mind you that we've been where the TdF was actually on TV in an expensive bar! Once again we were struck by the amount of wealth in the world. Bentleys, Rolls Royces and Ferraris lined the docks behind the most enormous yachts we have ever seen from all over the world.

We ended the day at Loco Loco, a fantastic restaurant in Old Town Villefranche-sur-Mer. Pierre had the Nicoise salad and I had the Villefranc salad with a nice, light rose. We had a nice conversation with a couple from Manchester and agreed that we WILL be back! We've enjoyed our stay immensely and have met some mighty fine people along the way - from the great folks at Cycle Cote D'Azur to the folks at Chez Betty and Le Trianon. Can't wait to return and show our girls the jewel of the Mediterranean.

See you all next week.
