Outriggers heading out

This is a family vacation - all 13 of us. The Van Camp family: Grandma and Grandpa Joye and John Van Camp; their son and daughter-in-law, Jason Van Camp and Chris (my daughter)and their sons, Josh and Justin and Justin's girl friend, Taylor Joseph; the Van Camp other son, Joel and wife, Tracy and their kids, Payden and Quinn; and me, grandma Barbara Schneider and grandson, Michael Marquez.

We leave Kansas City airport on Thursday, June 21, at 6:00 a.m. (ugh). We change planes in Phoenix and fly on to Kona airport on the Big Island (Hawaii), arriving at 2:21 p.m. on Thursday. 8 hours, you say? No way! You would be right, because there is a five-hour time difference in Hawaii and it's actually 8:00 p.m. KC time (12 hours traveling - ugh!). But we don't let this gift of five free hours go to waste. We make a stop at the condo we have rented (more about that later) and then on our way to Costco to stock up on whatever we will need for seven days (yeah, right!). Even after stocking up on food for a week, we decide to eat out – at Sam Choy’s, a nearby restaurant.

The condo - three levels of luxury right on the Pacific Ocean! Our own private swimming pool, hot tub, gas grill, patios, everything needed for a trip to paradise. Right next to a public access to the ocean where we can watch the surfers ride the waves.

This is gonna be fun!
