After such a great time with Chris and Ros we weren't in a rush to leave and didn't get away until about 1 o'clock this afternoon.
The main activity of the morning was taking some molasses out for the cows. None of us were too impressed with the taste but the cows were falling over each other to get at it.
Due to the late departure, we didn't make it too far today, pulling in for a break at Granite Creek Rest Area about 3 pm and deciding almost immediately to stay here the night. We're about 30km south of Miriam Vale, spending our first night this trip in Old Bess. It makes it feel like our adventure has started for real.
It's the first of what we hope will be many nights in free camp sites. This one has toilets, no showers or drinking water, and plenty of other travellers. The girls have gone off to sleep pretty easily but as I write at 9.30 Will is still up, feeling unsettled and wanting to be back in his bed at home. He always takes time to adjust to things and I know I was the same.
Hopefully the next few days will involve some earlier starts and longer k's.
