Route 66 and The Pacific Coast Highway travel blog

We made it. Organized and out of San Diego by nine. We have had a wonderful time. Originally had thought we might spend three days but ended up spending 6 days and seven nights. Had a great time with our friends, Moe and Linda Rosenberg. Sad to leave but we'd better move on. Decided to skip the beaches south of Los Angeles and headed for Santa Barbara. Drove through downtown LA on the Santa Monica Freeway. If we had turned left we would have seen the end of Route 66 at the Santa Monica Pier but we are too big. After passing through LA we headed north on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) towards Thousand Oaks, Oxnard and Ventura. North of Ventura we discovered the Ventura County Beaches that have camping. Turned off the 101 highway on to the Old PCH and ended up at Hobson Beach. What a find. Sites are all first come first served and we got a site backing on to the beach. Bonus! Registered for two nights but thinking we might stay through the weekend. As we sit at our dining table we look out the window and down the shoreline watching the surf break. You can hear the sounds of the surf all the time. Surrounded by an eclectic group. Surfers, fisherman, people in tents, a few motor homes and us. There are only 31 sites. Had a light dinner and then was fooling around with the generator and TV. Guess what I found. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in HD. It's amazing what our little antenna will pick up. Tomorrow we'll relax and enjoy the beach lifestyle. Maybe I'll try surfing.
