Last one!

We are in Ouray, Colorado. It is one of the most beautiful areas we have seen in Colorado. Ouray's intimate downtown is a designated National Historic District, it is nestled in a canyon at the base of the San Juan Mountains and offers some of the most panoramic views in the United States, earning it the nickname "Switzerland of America." Natural wonders like waterfalls, hot springs, mountain peaks and wildlife abound in the area. We saw a huge herd of elk right outside of town. There were so many I gave up counting.

Ouray has been a special destination of world travelers for more than 100 years. This small community is nestled in some of the most rugged and towering peaks of the Rockies. Set at the narrow head of a valley at 7,792 feet and surrounded on three sides with 13,000 foot snowcapped peaks. Ouray also has a huge sulfur-free hot springs with stunning views and the world-famous Ouray Ice Park. I tried to get pictures of the hot springs but we were moving too fast. I will take more pictures and add when we return.

Remarkably, two-thirds of Ouray's original Victorian structures, are still occupied, and have been lovingly restored in order to preserve their turn-of-the-century charm.

We will be finding a place to camp in this area for at least a month, maybe more. This whole area from Telluride to Ouray is outstanding. We can't wait to move here and do more exploring. Check back later for more from Colorado.
