Bali - May 2013 travel blog


After another early morning trip to the gym and massive breakfast, we spent the late morning/early afternoon with Amanda and Ryan. After some pool time, they took us up the beach to a small local restaurant where we ate whole fried fish, spring rolls, and Bintangs - it's always Tang o'clock somewhere. Prices here, like at Lia Cafe, were far more reasonable than the hotel. The fish, for example, cost $60,000 rupiah, or $6 US dollars. A small beer at the hotel was $6 US dollars and here only $3 for a large which is at least 2x bigger.

We made it back to the St. Regis in time for our massages at 3. My massage was perfect and possibly the only one I've ever had which was longer than it was scheduled for. The Balinese massage combines long strokes with pressure point work. I would highly recommend the St. Regis spa.

We ended our day at Tao, a Thai restaurant near by. The food was very good, but I've had Thai food just as good in Chicago. We again ate outside overlooking the ocean, but this time not in the sand. A beautiful night and perfect end to the day.
