Monday off to Van Buren about 9 miles away lovely old town with some great old buildings but most of the town shops were closed as it was Monday. There was a railway station here as well and watched the old trains coming through. Then onto Natural Dam and a walk along the river, the next stop was Devils Den State Park but we came across dirt roads so decided to turn back & give it a miss as it looked pretty rough, there was another way in but meant another 30 miles and it was getting later in the day. We drove out to the Oklahoma visitor centre instead to pick up lots of brochures & maps so we could plan our next trip. The weather has hit the mid 70,s today and I was still sitting outside at 8pm tonight.
Tuesday 8th May- After getting the windscreen repaired on the RV we headed into Fort Smith about 15 miles away. First stop was Miss Laura’s which used to be a Bordello, but now is the town’s visitor centre although a lot of the house has been restored to look like Miss Laura’s. A walk along the river was next and to wander around what is left of the Old Fort, then on into the historic old town.
After a bite to eat we headed out to a nature reserve where there were lots of loop trails we could walk around, this is where we saw the green snake & lizard.
We discovered today that since entering Alabama over a week ago now we had been an hour out in time, so were getting up far to early!!!!!
We are now leaving Alma today and going to park in a State Park in Oklahoma there will be no internet there, should be back on Sunday/Monday
