Uluru to Painted Desert
Apr 21, 2013
|Day 25 of our fun – Sunday 21 April 2013
Ayers Rock Resort to Arckaringa Station (Painted Desert)
Unfortunately we got up knowing we had to leave the beautiful site of Uluru.
We packed up and had one last look at Uluru and Kata Tjuta from viewing platform in the caravan park. After we said goodbye to this place we had to get in the car. This place has been a highlight for me.
We got on the road and pumped up our tyres for the bitumen road we were travelling on today. Today we are not sure how far we would travel and where we would stay. We would see how we go. The plan was to get some km’s done as now we are heading for home which is a bit sad.
At Kulgera we couldn’t resist hot chips for lunch. We voted that these where the best hot chips in the world. After having some lovely hot chips there was a decision to make whether to stay at Cadney Roadhouse but we decided to push on.
We let our tyres down again and went on another dirt road heading for the Painted Desert
This was an interesting drive. There was flat plains with occasional unusual hills which were very bare but had lots of different colours in them.
Along the way realised we had lost the cap of the pole holder, mum thinks she didn’t tighten it properly. Luckily we hadn’t lost any poles. Now we have to put tape on the holder so poles don’t fall out until we can buy another one.
After travelling many km’s today we finally reached Arkaringa Station where we were camping for the night. We quickly spoke to the lady who lives at and runs the station, paid, unhitched the camper then headed 11km to watch the sunset over the Painted Desert. The sunset was extremely beautiful as there was some really pretty clouds. It is called the Painted Desert as the hills have different colours on them. There was many cows too.
We went back to campsite, set up the camper, had our showers and cooked dinner.
I also found out that there was a dog. This dog always hanged around me and where ever I walked it came after me. It also joined us for dinner. I enjoyed sitting around the campfire talking to the other campers but I couldn’t stand the dog so I went to bed early. Mum, dad and Alex had a great night talking to the other campers around the campfire.
