|Had a very quiet night in granada, got up and took the bus to managua...well, i kinda took the bus to managua...buses here do not have bus stops...they stop whenever and wherever anyone wants to get on or off, so i was keeping a lookout for my hotel (camino real), and i saw a sign for it off the highway, so i asked the bus driver to stop...he stopped and practically pushed me out the door (when i say "stop" i dont really mean stop, i mean slow down enough so you can take a flying leap out the door without him losing too much time on his route)...i asked him if it was the right place to get off for my hotel and he said yes...ummm, no! I was on the highway in the middle of nowhere and the sign i had seen was a bulletin board! Great! So im on the side of the highway waiting for someone to have pity on me and give me a ride and i see a taxi..yeah! He stops, but wants $30! That would leave me about broke, and i know it shouldnt cost that much, so i told him to go blow and went back to looking pitiful on the side of the highway...10 minutes later another taxi comes by and charges me $7...yeah, on the way to luxury! i had a sweet hotel waiting for me courtesy of an old friend...paid via credit card on paypal.com, and he checked to make sure all i needed was my passport to check in :) I was sooo psyched...got to the hotel, beautiful swimming pool, i was starving, it was like a resort and i was set to unpack my bags and chill in the sun for the day...but the hotel refused to let me check in without a credit card! Even though the room had already been paid for! I sat in the lobby and cried for about 10 minutes...then i got over it. Ok time to make a new plan.
So i figured that since i was already right next to the airport id check on getting to guatemala city today, so i went there, was able to change my ticket, and my flight left an hour later, so here i am in guatemala city..i got a room ($25 with tv and bathroom, but again, none of the charm of my former hostels) in the middle of the city and im really hoping i can get my cash card tomorrow morning before my friends arrive...supposedly it is at a fed ex office here and supposedly they open at 8, so we will see...then if i do get it, hopefully i can make it work! If that goes smoothly, im golden :) Hmmm, what are the chances of that?
So now im in guatemala city, which is supposed to be very dangerous, so im not too psyched about looking around, but im starving and dont want to sit in my hotel all day, so ill see if there is something i can do (for very cheap) for a while.
So if all goes well, tomorrow ill be off to honduras and the island of roatan, with a stop at copan to see the ruins. Wish me luck!
