We started the day out with delicious BBQ at Tony’s in Anahuac. After we were all full we headed out for a day of exploring. We took Jerry and Jared to the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge and drove the 2-1/2 mile loop. We counted a total of 16 alligators for the day. We saw a ton of birds too, this place is definitely a birding paradise.
After exploring Anahuac, we drove to High Island and walked the path to the rookery. The rookery is packed with breeding birds, we saw hundreds of spoonbills and egrets and more breeding. They have huge nest. The place is also packed with birders from all over the country coming to take photos etc. We saw some of the largest cameras we have ever seen.
After a wonderful day of exploring we all watched the Braves game together. What a great game! We are hoping the Braves win this year, they are certainly off to a good start.
We have enjoyed every minute of our time with Jerry and Jared, we wish they had another week with us. We have to take them to the airport in the morning, we are going to miss them when they leave. :-(
Check back later for more from Texas.
