Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

We were on the road at 8:30 this morning, heading north from Alamogordo, NM on Hwy 54.

The road was ok but the best road we had was under construction.

At least the signs warned of the 45 mph speed limit being rigidly enforced with speeding fines doubled.

This was over a 15 mile stretch of brand new, smooth, blacktop highway, four lanes wide, with new guard rails, etc.

The normal, rough, narrow, broken pavement, highway had a speed limit of 55 in most places.

It all makes no sense to me but we still made good time, stopping only once for fuel, potty break, and a sandwich.

The road climbed in elevation slowly but steadily and we were near 7000’ in elevation somewhere south of Vaughn, NM.

The scenery was much prettier today than it was last October when we drove the same route in the other direction.

Today, we arrived at Oasis RV Park in Amarillo a few minutes before 3:00, having lost an hour when we crossed into the Central Time Zone at the Texas border.

Soon after setting up, a truck stopped at our Site, and the guy on the passenger side said he knew me, that I had given him a tour in Hannibal, a year or so ago. It is a small world.

Marilyn & I sat outdoors in the sunshine, sipping a cold drink and visiting with the neighbors, a nice couple from Ft Worth, Texas.

We then walked over to the office to order a hand made pizza and some hot wings for our dinner.

We were just too tired after the six and a half hour drive today.

We towed the car and Marilyn rode with me. That was nice but she says she will drive the car tomorrow as we move on to Oklahoma City.

Each day gets us a bit closer to our destination of Hannibal, MO.

We are certainly anxious to see our family and we have lots of hugs and kisses for the grandkids.

We have kept some good friends in our thoughts today. Howard & Linda are hiking in the Grand Canyon, and our friends Trent & Teresa are exploring Bryce Canyon today.

We look forward to reading their blogs about the experiences.

So another travel day slips into the memory bank.

It was a nice day and we know for sure that Life is Good!
