Ramblin' Man's World Tour 2005 travel blog

Up at the bright and early time of 8:30am for our 9am pickup, we jumped in the large offroad car with our guide and two Frenchmen. We were going to be horseriding in the Andes today, so it was only right that i was wearing gaucho atire that i bought the day before.

The drive took us 45 minutes out of Mendoza and then another half an hour off the beaten track along a very dusty dirt road through Argenetinian grassland.

We got out at our destination, a tiny ranch-style farm in the middle of nowhere, but with one hell of a view. The horses were saddled up, and we were soon briefed on how to ride with a level of competence before each person was paired up with a horse.

I had the pleasure of riding an ochre-toned mellow horse by the name of 'Naranjo'. Within no time we were off riding towards and eventually within the lower mountains of the Andes, passing through grassland, rocky terrain, streams and naturally..steep inclines. Everyone managed fine, and continued in this serene and magical landscape for two hours before stopping to tie up the horse for a rest. This is when our two guides set up a fire and cooked us excellent Argentinian beef over the fire as well as aubergine, tomatoes, onions and bread. To drink we sipped Malbec from the region and tried some Mate, a typical drink from Argentina not so disimilar in taste to green tea. We stayed here and relaxed for a couple of hours in awe of the scenery before making our way back for another 2 hours.

Tonight, i fancy lasagne at a good Italian place and then maybe we`ll make our way to a bar.
