It is Friday, our last day of competition and it has been raining all night and all day. We had a breakfast at the chalet with our DHL shipping sponsor guests! The four of them traveled from Zurich, Basel and Geneva, Switzerland to fly with us today. But, we are unable to fly (bummer for all!). They attended the pilots meeting and had a nice tour of the balloon museum and lunch in Chateau d'Oex before returning to their respective towns.
The rest of the group spread out and spent the day doing lots of different things: touring Gruyere, touring the museum, shopping for treasures, etc. We all met back at the chalet to prepare for a beautiful happy hour at Patrick Kearley's 100+ year old chalet and then on to the awards ceremony where we witnessed a demonstration of Aisimo (the Honda robot), incredibly interesting technology.
Then, it was on to the Survivors dinner that was dedicated to our team! It was a Country Night at Landi. The decorations were over the top! More American flags than I have seen at a July 4th celebration! A live country band from Geneva and a menu of salad, bar-b-que spare ribs and chicken with pomme frites (french fries). We were in heaven! There was a mechanical bull and country line dance coaches that were great! We had donuts with whipped cream for dessert! What a time was had by all. The best survivors party ever!
