Hello from Chateau d'Oex! We arrived on Wednesday and found the crate with the balloon envelope that shipped to Geneva. Pierre our wonderful host drove down to Geneva to retrieve us with the trailer so we had lots of room for all of our luggage and balloons things. After unpacking, we started our 2 hour drive to Chateau d'Oex. After being in planes or airports for over 24 hours, we just wanted a good meal, some wine and a fluffy pillow. We did have the most wonderful cookies sent by our dear friend, Shan Stuart in Aspen, for the trip to Switzerland. He makes the BEST cookies and is always trying new and different combinations that are sooo yummie! THANKS SHAN!
On Thursday,, the rest of our crew (Patrick, Gina, Silas and Eske Carter)flew into Frankfurt, magically found a VW van with trailer hitch and retrieved the basket, burners, tanks, fan, etc. from our great friends Alfred and Renate. They arrived last evening with to a fabulous warm dinner of pulled pork, coleslaw, beans and rolls made by our Arizona team mate Barbara. She had made the pork at home, froze it and it flew all the way in her luggage which made for a super first night meal. Thanks, Barb!
Today, since everyone had had a good nights sleep and good meals, we helped our friend Muir from Bristol, England inflate his balloon for a short flight in the afternoon. We had to abort after inflation due to gusty winds that decided to thwart our good times. Jon and Patrick checked in and we are now good to go for tomorrow. The Team got all of the balloon parts put together, fueled and we are ready for tomorrow.
We joined the other Pilots at a welcome fondue dinner at LeChalet. We were joined by Bernhardt (from Frankfurt), a member of our crew from our last Switzerland adventure.
Tomorrow is opening ceremonies and our first flight. We will keep you updated on this great adventure in the Alps!
