After going through Poland and taking so much in as Auschwitz Nick and I decided we were doing our trip a bit too fast. I personally get a bit overdone with tourist sights and stop taking it in after a while. We decided to just pick a random town in Slovakia that we could stop at and eventually head on to Budapest.

We eventually ended up in Levoca (after long, slow trains, and long slow buses). Cute little town about the size of Mammoth and not a tourist in sight! Definitely stuck in time--it's no longer an 80's party that you throw but a Slovac party:) But still welcoming and little kids playing in the street which you always have to admire of a town. It was a Sunday--and a very Catholic town so no facilities were open to help us find out where to stay. We just started walking around hoping to find a house with a B & B sign when a Norwegian couple stopped us and asked if we were looking for a place to stay. They themselves were leaving but had been staying a a lovely family owned pension and said we could probably take their spot. After a bit of confusion with the husband who owns the pention (he didn't speak a drop of English and his wife wasn't around to help) he showed us to a cozy little room at the top of their house that was just like staying in your grandparents guestroom. We ended up staying 3 days there because it was so relaxing and they were so lovely to us. Really made us feel like part of their family. Made us a cake the first night, helped us with any questions, sat down with us to figure out some hiking trails in their nearby national park, and then on the last night made us a traditional Slovak meal. It was honestly such a nice break and refresher for all the travelling that still awaits us. They were so self sufficiant--even grew their own veggies, fruit, animals, etc.

One of the days we went through this very popular trail in the national park (I've never had to wait in line to go on part of a hike--so much for getting away from the tourists :)). But nonetheless it was still amazingly beautiful and a fairly difficult trail with ladders and chains to go up and along the side of the cliffs. Nick was lovely the outdoors and the serenity of course while I mosied along looking at flowers and tripping every couple of minutes--always the graceful Kirsten that I am.

After a tearful goodbye--yes she drew a few tears when we left, we grabbed our things and headed off to Budapest!
