Jungfraujoch

WOW! What an experience. A train ride through the lovely villages of Lauterbrunnen and Wengen, with the most wonderful visions of snow covered mountains on either side, eventually bringing us the view of the gigantic mountains of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. We are in ski country, people everywhere with snow suits, skis, poles, helmets and funny snow shoes. We change to a clog wheel train in Klein Scheidegg, then wind up the mountains passing through several tunnels that go through both the Eiger and Monch Mountains. It is the centenary of the Jungfraujoch, it is amazing to think that this was constructed so long ago. We caught the fastest lift in Switzerland to Sphinx Terrace, 3571 metres above sea level. A very cool terrace provided magnificent views over Aletsch Glazier. The Ice Palace, an enormous ice cavern, was filled with crystal like sculptures carved out of ice. We exposed ourselves to the minus 15.1 degree temperature for a few minutes; it was chilly and excruciatingly painful on the hands whilst trying to take photos. Jungfraujoch is an experience not to be missed.
