Iconic structure in Cedar Key

A really nice week revisiting this quiet little village. We stayed a month in Feb 2011 and really enjoyed it. For us, a visit to Florida must include a visit to Cedar Key. We stayed in the Sunset Isle RV Park again. We found it to be the best for the money and location. There are other parks, but we like the fact that we can walk to town everyday and explore without the need for driving.

Cedar Key's clam-based aquaculture is a multi-million dollar industry. The village holds two festivals a year, the Spring Sidewalk Art Festival and the Fall Seafood Festival, that each attract thousands of visitors to the area. One of the reasons I like this place is because it is not overrun with tourists. In fact, it is probably a little too quiet for the business owners.

The high and low tides here are dramatic. When the tide is out you will see endless black mud. Great stuff to wade out into to clam or collect spectacular shells. I will skip this activity because the mud is smelly, hard to clean out of clothes and between the toes.

This is a great place for hiking, shopping, eating fabulous seafood and other culinary specialties, relaxation and beautiful sunsets. One of my favorite nearby places to visit is the Manatee Springs State Park. The manatees have already been seen in the natural spring area.

We will be returning in March which should be a good time for bird migration and seasonal mating. A wildlife boat tour will be at the top of the activity list. This visit our primary activity was hiking, hiking and more hiking. Great visit!!

We are off to Three Flags RV Resort in Wildwood, FL which is not too far from Bushnell. This is an Encore park which is included in our Thousand Trails membership. We hope to hook up with Tracey & Phil of TechnoRV. They are holding a learning rally with Jim and Chris of GeeksOnTour this next week. It has been a while since we have seen them. Meeting up with our RV Community family along the way is one of the many bonus's of this unique lifestyle. We are so fortunate.

We celebrated a wedding anniversary this week....our 5th...this time. We figured if we had not taken a break (LOL) from one another we would have been married 28 years. Boy time sure does fly. Happy Anniversary honey.
