La casa rosada

Rick, the tango dancer

He even danced with one of the professional dancers!!

We arrived in Buenos Aires yesterday morning around 8:00, having left Salta at 5:00. Our hotel wasn't ready for us so we took off to explore the city. We found a bookstore where we had a cafe con leche and muffin, then hurried off to catch the "Free Walking Tour"! The guide was excellent, pointing out interesting archetectural structures, sharing stories about local political figures, and explaining to us the history of Argentina. We walked about three hours! Last night we joined our fellow travellers at a local Tango Show and dinner. The food was pretty fabulous! Between dinner and dessert we had a tango lesson! Rick, among 10 men to 30 women, got lots of practice. The show followed and was great!

We were told, and saw on the news that today there was to be a nation-wide transportation strike with demonstrations. We were afraid our flights would be cancelled, but only local flights, and United Airlines cancelled. We saw some small groups of demonstrators as we walked around.

Today we went to La Ricoleta, a mausoleum (sp?) grave yard that is a city in itself. It's where Eva Peron is buried. Then it was off to a local restaurant for our last steak....diet tomorrow! Now, at airport, home tomorrow.

Chao!
