Independence Hall

Assembly room - Independence Hall (where it all happened)

Liberty Bell

Philly was once the capital of the US and is where the Declaration of Independence and the American constitution were signed. Both of these events happened in the Assembly Room of what is commonly known as Independence Hall (actual name is State House of the Province of Pennsylvania). Some may know it from the movie National Treasure or if you have actually studied American History. It was built between 1732 and 1756 and over 90% of the exterior and 60% of the interior is still in the original condition. It was a gorgeous building but I guess not being American, it didn’t have the same impact on me as it did on others in the group.

I also visited Liberty Bell which has become the symbol of freedom in America, crack and all, from the fight against to British, to the equality of women and the abolishment of slavery.

And I couldn’t leave without trying a famous “Philly Cheese Steak” which is essentially steak sliced wafer thin and mixed on a hotplate with cheese and then served in a roll or hoagie as they are known here. It was alright but not something I would crave anytime soon.
