Tampa is a big city and it was an adventure to get to our campground on the north side of the city. We crossed the Sunshine Skyway Bridge to get across Tampa Bay. I am afraid of heights and I don't normally get anxious on bridges, but the combination of center cables, low guard rails, good visibility and height of the truck cab made me concentrate on the road and avoid looking at the view.
There is about 3 miles of causeway on concrete pilings on either side of a very high suspension bridge. The bridge is over the shipping channel and is designed to be high enough for ocean-going cargo ship and Navy ships to pass underneath. At least I enjoyed the view on the causeway part!
After the bridge we had to cross all of St Peterburg and a lot of Tampa to get to our campground, and both are big cities. It was all expressway driving but I was still really glad that we had the GPS. There was a lot of merging, ramps, and lane changing.
We are in Tampa primarily to visit family. Janet and I have both been here before many times and we are not planning to see any local attractions. Janet has 2 uncles and a cousin and their spouses all with a few miles of each other.
