Today Inge, Virginia, Dianne, Barbara and I attended the Bach cantata at the Blanton Museum of Art. The program today was “Gelobet sei der Herr, mein Gott BWV 129” (Praised be the Lord, my God) which Bach composed retrospectively for the cycle of 1724-25 to replace non-chorale-based compositions. For the text, the five-verse hymn by Johann Olearius (1665) is adopted word for word. It is a beautiful cantata. I especially enjoyed the bass aria.
The featured work of art was “Cleopatra” by Donato Creti, 1710s, oil on canvas.
We then had lunch at the Blanton Café.
