October 23-26, 2012 – Emporia, Kansas

October 23 – The part for the coach has not come in yet. It will probably be next week before it is here. So, I’ll be here for a while. The wind was high today so I didn’t do anything.

October 24 – I got the oil changed on the car and the front end aligned today. I drove to Hartford to see a double arch bridge which was covered with graffiti. It might have been a pretty bridge once but not now. It is at the entrance to the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge. I drove through part of it, but it was the wrong time of the day to see any wildlife.

It continues to be windy so I’m really glad that I’m not on the road in the coach today.

October 25 – Today I slept late, did laundry and generally did nothing.

October 26 – Today I emptied the black and gray water and got the sewer hose put up. I’ll unhook from water tonight and drain the fresh water hose before it gets dark. It is supposed to go to 28 tonight so I don’t want anything to freeze.

I drove down to Cassoday today. I thought I’d go to Teterville which is a ghost town. It is on a gravel road about 12 miles east of Cassoday. I stopped for directions and was told that they hoped I had a couple of spare tires because the road was full of flint rock and I was sure to have a flat. I decided that I didn’t need to see that particular ghost town.

I came back to Emporia and met Sue for supper. Then, I came back to the coach and unhooked the water hose, drained it and stored it. It got cold enough by 9 that the heat pump quit working so I have the furnace on now. I had really intended to be in Texas by the time cold weather hit, but I want to stay here until the switches for the slides come in. I’m also having him put a new hitch on the coach and a new base plate on the car to replace the one that Camperland of Tulsa put on crooked.
