A View From the Dog Park

Our Luray, VA Home

We left the D.C. area mid-morning Wednesday (10/24) and drove to Luray, VA. Although we had hoped to follow the colors south, we find ourselves about a week late ... so colors are not so great .... but how can you NOT find the scenery spectacular!! For some of the drive we found ourselves with the Blue Ridge Mountains (and famed Skyline Drive) on our left and the Shenandoah Mountains on our right. We have been through this area many times, but have never really appreciated it's beauty and grandeaur! Yeah ... how much for granted we take those things around us, until we don't have them anymore!! We think we have become much more appreciative of things, since taking this trip.

Well ... we decided to try a campsite we had NOT been to before ... and again lucked out and found a beautiful spot:-) Luray RV Park - Country Way is a KOA. It sits on top a hill (maybe small mountain) and has a great view of the mountains, as well as overlooking several lush Virginia farms. It was very pleasant being able to sit outside in the warm sun and enjoy the view each afternoon, as we had our afternoon cocktails. It is finally hitting us that this journey is coming to a close. We find that thought rather depressing, yet as we are faced with threats of more cold and rain, we both agree we may also be ready to return home for a bit.

Thursday (10/25) we took a trip to Edinburgh, VA in search of the Shenandoah County Library, which had a genealogy research room (The Shenandoah Room). The goal of this visit was for Penny to try and get some additional information/verification on one of her 5th great-grandfathers (on her mother's side), who fought in the American Revolutionary War in a unit from this area (This is one of her direct lines for qualifying to join the D.A.R.). Although the search was NOT terribly successful, she did find some additional tips on continuing this research when we get home.

Our plan is to leave Friday (10/26) and do some wandering through Tennesee. We think we will try several different parts of the state ... as we are still tentatively toying with this being a potential relocation area. Of course ... the news regarding the "artic cold" coming from the west and Hurricane Sandy potentially coming from the east may alter our plans. Guess we just go with the flow.
