McElholum road trip - up the Centre 2012 travel blog

Later start, kids asleep till 8am and cold morning. First few hours still driving through the flat, desolate landscape. Had decided to turn east north of Adelaide and travel along the Sturt to check out some places along the Murray. Found ourselves driving past the doorstep of the Barossa so decided to make some stops. Briefly popped into the cellar door of two of our favourites, Rockfords and Turkey Flat. Remembered what a beautiful spot the Barossa is to visit! Subsequently changed our destination from Mildura to Renmark, just before the Victorian border. Arrived at 5.30pm. Staying at Riverbend campground. Lovely spot right on the banks of the Murray, Lots of grass. Kids enjoyed a play but they were disappointed that the jumping pillow which we'd been looking forward to was flat. $51p/n
