2012 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta travel blog

Oct 4, 2012

We left Sky City RV Park about 9:30 for the short drive to the Balloon Fiesta campgrounds, arriving about 11 am. We checked in with the Winnebago tour group while our traveling companions Bill, Margaret, Nancy, Mel, Larry and Elaine signed in with the Fantasy tour group. Although there are over 3 thousand rigs here at the moment, our traveling companions are only a few rows away. After setting up, the tour hosts came by with our welcome packet and to remind us of the orientation meeting at 2:15. Orientation lasted about one and a half hours and covered a lot of information. At 4:30 we had a very interesting presentation by a couple of balloonist and their chase team. They fly both gas and hot air balloons. They fly (as a sport) competitions both in the USA and Europe. After the presentation, we had a light dinner and chatted with a nice couple from Lubbock, TX. After dinner we went for a short walk around the campgrounds stopping by Bill and Margaret’s rig but they were not home. Tomorrow we take a Tram ride to the top of Sandia Peak ( 10,300 feet) .
