2012 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta travel blog

Oct.3, 2012

We were up early to get an early start because we were going about 320 miles and we lose an hour when we cross time zones in New Mexico. We made a stop for a small amount of fuel in Winslow, enough to get us to Gallup, NM where fuel would be cheaper. As we crossed into New Mexico, we stopped at the rest stop/visitor center to get more paper….brochures and to have lunch. We got back on the road as we were approaching Gallup looking for the Flying-J gas station and after we were past Gallup Margaret called to tell us we would be seeing the Flying J on Exit 39. But it wasn’t a Flying-J, it was a Pilot Gas station. We didn’t know Pilot and Flying-J had merged. We had seen all the signs for Pilot all along. Elden was getting to panicky because he really needed fuel. While at the station the fuel was cheaper but the pump was really slow to pump. Bill started pumping after us and finished while we were half way full.

Back on the road, we arrived at the Sky City RV Park/Hotel/Casino in Acoma which is right off the freeway at exit 102. Good thing we made reservations because a large group of Airstreams were there too. We arrived about 4:00 and got settled. We had decided to get our laundry done before we went to the Casino to dinner. Nancy & Mel went up earlier to dinner. We went to dinner after 7:15. We thought we would listen to the presidential debate but Elden recorded it instead. We will have a short drive (60 miles) to the Balloon Fiesta RV campgrounds.
