This was a cloudy, drizzly day - which almost kept us from taking the drive. But the colors came through, I think, despite the day. We even saw glimpses of some sun on some of the the hillsides - but not much. Other areas in this mountain range (Wasatch) got a couple inches of snow. I found the fall color this year quite interesting - even somewhat spectacular. I can't help comparing to New England fall color.

Alpine Loop is a curvy mountain road with switchbacks - but is paved and pleasant to drive on - even if a bit narrow in spots. We took one offshoot of this, Timpooneke, which is unpaved and quite rough. We stuck with this for several miles in a steady uphill but were not rewarded with any views from that elevation. We returned to paved roads and continued to Sundance.

As we left the Loop Drive and looked back up into the hills, we could see the clouds were breaking and the hills were in sunshine surrounded by mostly blue skies. The time (between 5 and 6 PM would have been nice for the evening light, but we were headed 'home.")
