|Saturday, September 22, 2012 found us finally in Utah. We are staying at Lottie-Dell RV Park in Snowville, Utah. This city isn't named for all the snow they get, but for a gentleman whose last name was Snow. This park is a cash only park at $30.00 a night. Not a bad park, but laundry room definitely could use some cleaning.
Sunday morning we took off early (Ken & Connie, I know you will find that hard to believe) and headed to Golden Spike Historic Site. Dale wanted to be there by 10 AM as that is when they bring out the locomotives for a demonstration. This site has been on Dale's bucket list for a long time and well worth taking the time to visit. Promontory Summit is where the last spike (gold) was driven in connecting the Central Pacific RR from the west and the Union Pacific RR from the east on May 10, 1869. Over 10,000 workers made this happen and the history of the four year project is quite amazing. They pulled replicas of the two locomotives out and had them meet on the tracks just like on May 10, 1869.
This is one of those places that I am so glad we didn't miss seeing.
We also drove by Thiokol or now known as ATK which is a rocket propulsion plant known for helping the space industry. With NASA downturn, the company now makes ammunitions and rocket fuels for our military missiles. This place extended for miles and miles and acres and acres of Utah land.
While in Phoenix, AZ last year at the Good Sam Rally, we were told of a deal Good Sam made with Pilot/Flying J truck stops. If you applied for their fuel charge card as a member you would get a 6 cent discount, life members get an 8 cent discount. They also had a rewards card that would get you a 3 cent discount that you could use with any other credit card. (just not both of them at the same time). We got both of the cards and we have been getting the cash price less 8 cents (we are life members) for each fuel up. Normally it means we are saving $.14 per gallon each fuel up compared to other prices in town. In Hagerman, we saved $.29 per gallon as prices were so terribly high everywhere else. By the end of this trip, Dale figures we will have paid for our life membership in Good Sam. While we were skeptical of the deal to begin with, we have become believers. Thanks Good Sam!!!!!
