We took the bus into the Town Beach to view a great community event run by the Rotary Club - dragon boat races on the beach. It seemed that all the school, business houses and community groups had a team in the boat races and were having a great time - sometimes capsized, sometimes steering off course, somtimes both together.
We spent the morning there - it was the first time we had seen the beach at high tide and what a beautiful sight it was too.
Back to the caravan park and of course the boys were in the pool. We then visited the Buddha before catching the bus into the Town Beach to the markets and to see the Staircase to the Moon.
The bus was fairly full on the way to the beach but was standing room only on the way home.
There were markets (artisans + different cultures of food) and we had dinner there before finding a vantage point to watch the staircase. An enormous bushfire was burning to the East and the winds were blowing huge clouds of smoke over Broome - we thought it might affect the viewing but we were not disappointed when at 6:23 a very burnt orange moon rose over the point and shone an amazing strip of colour across the mud flats. You really needed a tripod for the camera to get a great picture (shutter speed was so slow in the dark). Never-the-less thousands of people tried to get a photo. Then in 5minutes it was all over when the moon rose high enough and people dispersed instantly.
