Nick was enjoying his cool spot on this warm summer day.
We drove about 90 minutes to Estes Park on Friday and are staying at a campground just outside of town and near an entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. The last 20 miles of the drive here was on a two lane highway that went up and down through the mountains. I was driving and I actually enjoyed myself! A couple of times I pulled off the road to let a stream of vehicles pass by. Everyone seemed rather patient about the way it was.
We relaxed at our campsite in the afternoon and I also went grocery shopping and made a couple of phone calls. We had a nice dinner and watched a movie in the evening. We were preparing ourselves for our big visit to the National Park today.
It's a good thing I upgraded this travel blog service through Good Sam's Club to get Premium with unlimited photographs because I have 32 to upload today. I try not to have more than 16 but I couldn't help myself. Here's why.
After a nice breakfast at a restaurant on the corner, Jerry, Holly and I headed into Rocky Mountain National Park. We stopped at one of the visitors' centers and saw a movie on the history of the park. It will be 100 years old in 2015.
For the next 4+ hours we drove higher and higher to an altitude of 12,183 feet and to our final destination for the day, the Alpine Visitor Center.
I think the expression "a picture is worth a thousand words" is appropriate here. I've put captions under some of them so you will have an idea what we saw.
It was a fantastic day. Even though we've been in the Rockies for almost a month, the scenery in the National Park was unbelievably beautiful. I am very grateful that our country has preserved these parks for all of us to enjoy.
