Tuesday 31/7/12 to Mariannelund, 84ks, 4hr 45 ride time

We woke to overcast skies and a feeble sun, and we got the tent laid out on the concrete to dry before the next shower. The wind was at our backs and we averaged about 18kph over the rollercoaster country roads. We rode about 10ks through forestry roads in very good condition and stopped for a feast of wild raspberries. Yum. Back onto the main highway for a short stretch and the rain came down again heavily, its hot work riding in rain gear. Around 2pm we were searching to find a place to stop for lunch, out of the rain. We spotted a roadsign with symbol indicating a swimming place at a lake and as luck would have it the sun appeared for our 45min lunchbreak at a picnic table!! So the gods do listen and deliver sometimes !! We passed through very small clusters of houses and we had to wait til Kvillsfors to find a place for coffee about 4pm. ..and what a disappointment, awful bitter and thin filter coffee. Nickie is really missing the expresso style coffee. She had remarked yesterday that there were no little dairies/shops along the way to get icecream or Fanta, but today we see 2 shops and they are closed. At the Kvillsfors cycle shop, Pete enquires about getting a dynamo for the front wheel hub that will generate more power than the solar panels, to charge garmin and phone. No luck and when pete moves his bike between the steps and several bikes standing on display on the footpath, he knocks the first bike, starting a domino effect on the other bikes. Quickly we standup the bikes again and leave before the shopowner notices. We laugh about that one!! Now the sun is full strength and hot, and it’s a beautifully scenic rural ride 20ks to Mariannelund. After another grocery shop we pass out to the north of town to a large campground on the lake shore. We pitch the tent at the end of a row of tents, nearby the gravel walkways….we have a beer and relax …but Nickie can’t handle the campers that shortcut the pathways and walk right close to the tent among our gear …”aaargghhh this is my personal space” , can’t you respect that we are camped here??? …. So up with the tent and we move to a space between motorhomes, that is not such a thoroughfare…. Pete made a very tasty pasta with herring, and Nickie is in the tent by 8pm, exhausted, after doing another handwash and hanging clothes between 2 trees. Thank goodness for earplugs that muffled the sound of the young girls rope skipping on the gravel, crunch, jump, crunch, jump and the energetic teenager s bouncing basketballs on the gravel..mmmm….the downside of large campsites. Pete took some nice photos of the lake .
