Question: How many aspen trees are in this grove? Answer below.
Larry entering a saloon???
We had a fun day in Virginia City, MT. It says it is the best preserved ghost town in the USA. Everyone kind of left after the gold rush ended, some rather quickly. The general store was left with all its merchandise so what you see in the picture is all the original stuff, rearranged nicely of course. There are several working businesses and quite a lot of traffic and people. Some of the stores are locked up with just windows to look through. Others have an indoor fence so you can go in and look closer. The weather has been really great and we just strolled around and had lunch in an old redone building and had homemade ice cream. The stagecoach ride was fun with a cute young driver who sat on the drivers seat and texted on her phone in between tours. The ride took us out to alders gulch where the gold rush started. There are people out there today that are mining for gold as the glory hole has still not been found and some of them think it is just waiting to be discovered. The white building with the second story door is a false front as there is no second story to this building. We don't know why this was build this way. This building was used to do the county seat business for a while. How many of you answered the question about the trees? An aspen grove has only one tree, the mother tree. All the others are sucker trees that have grown off the mother tree root. The mother tree root can be hundreds of years old and no longer standing. Just a fun fact. Larry is going in the saloon in Nevada City which is about 1.5 miles from Virginia City. It is a very small place with only a few storefronts. We almost road the train from Virginia City to Nevada City but decided not to and I am so glad as this is a rip off. There is really nothing much to see in Nevada City but Virginia City was fun. On to Glacier National Park next. Love Alice and Larry
