Good evening, or morning, for the daily update from Edinburgh.

Woke up to a lovely day in Edinburgh with the sun shining. It wasn't all that warm, around 18 degrees, but the locals were all in the parks at lunchtime with shirts off lapping up the "hot weather".

Brenda and I caught the open top tour bus and sat in the open up the top. It toured around the city and we got to see all the main highlights and points of interest with a running explanatory comment.

I'm thinking they should operate one of these in Melbourne, maybe they already do. But where would they go?

The MCG, Young and Jackson's (is it still there?), St Paul's, Flinders St Station, Arts Centre, King St.......maybe it is viable. Not quite the same as the Rome, Paris or London tours.

Anyway our tour was very good. We saw Mary Queen of Scots palace, we saw where Robbie Burns stayed, we saw where the two fellows Burke and Hare killed people and sold them to medical colleges for study.

There is now a nightclub establishment called the Burke and Hare. And it is a strip joint.

We also walked up the Royal Mile where all the Edinburgh fringe festival street performers are. There were many buskers in the street. The fringe festival starnext his Friday.

We toured the environmental exhibit, Our Dynamic Earth. It was most enjoyable and interesting. A 3D movie about the earth's various environmental regions and a dome planetarium style movie about Charles Darwin and the evolution process. Very good.

Brenda and I then did some shopping at the souvenir shops and back to the hotel for dinner.

An early night tonight.

We are off to York tomorrow, back into England. Two nights there. We are now in our last week before the flight home. Not looking forward to the flight but I think we are both keen to get home now. It has been a wonderful trip but we are looking for home, our beds, the family and to stop eating.

Good luck to everybody.

Brenda and Norm
