Carpe at Talkeetna Visifor's Center

Talkeetna Alaska

Fri, 20 Jul: We are boondocking at the Talkeetna/Denali Visitor's Center at the junction of the Parks Highway and the Talkeetna Spur. We departed the Big Bear RV Park in Wasilla after dumping the waste tanks and topping off our potable water. We also topped off our propane tank as it was convenient (convenient does not equal inexpensive!) Then we stopped at a nearby Shell station to top off the diesel.

We took the Parks Highway north through Wasilla and Willow to the Talkeetna Spur junction. We have two nites to kill as there are no spots at Denali National Park till Sunday. We're boondocking at the Visitor's Center tonite and will boondock closer to the park tomorrow nite.

After lunch we drove the car the fourteen miles into Talkeetna. It is an interesting town that touts their fantastic views of Denali. Well, the clouds have moved in and there are no vistas at all, just haze. But it is quite the tourist trap and the Princess Land Tour buses and their "cargo" were all over. Yeah, we're tourists also, but do we really look like that?
