Nila & Bob Tales of the Oregon Trail travel blog

We are camped tonight on the Old Oregon Trail near Redding, CA. It is hot. We sipped a gin and tonic outside and gazed at the Cascade Mountain Range around. The scenery is lush and green now, a nice contrast to the desert we passed through. Our destination is an RV rally in Redmond, OR, on Monday. We plan to see Crater Lake tomorrow and Sunday. We made contact with the Lairds, our friends that we are meeting at the rally. We met them in Austria and have skied together the last two years.

We ate chicken and steamed vegetables tonight as we listened to Balboa Brass by Mike Sharp. Mike played at our wedding, as he did at the weddings of a couple of other friends. We have lost touch with Mike and Joanne in recent years. We finished our meal with strawberry short cake.

I am still mourning the death of my friend Mary Peaker. I think of her a lot as we drive. My friend Ann Pauli called and we talked about Mary. She worked with Mary and was very close to her too. That helped some. I guess I am seeking closure about her death and it is often easier for me to do that in the company of mutual friends as we talk about our memories.
