2012 Arizona Adventures travel blog

Friday, June 8 Dumas, AR

Last nights overnight at Pendleton Bend COE park was a delight. We parked on the levee overlooking the Arkansas River, close to the confluence at the Mississippi River. This morning we drove to Arkansas Post and spent most of the morning learning about this western most trading post during the Revolution and Civil Wars. The area of the country was ruled by the Spanish, British, French until it was sold to the US in the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The Arkansas Post is now a lovely national monument along the Arkansas River. We drove further north into Arkansas and spent the night in northern Blytheville, Arkansas.
