Wednesday- July 4th-Mitchell, SD
We left for a trip to the northwest this summer; our destination is through South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Washington. We left home Friday, June 29th stopping for a night in Davenport, IA, and Onawa, IA and then on to Mitchell, SD. We decided to stay in Mitchell through the 4th. Mitchell is a nice small city and is the home of the only Corn Palace in the world. See Photos of the Corn Palace. You can see the man working on putting corn shucks on the front of the Corn Palace. See all the murals made out of corn and corn products. The entire displays (inside and outside) are entirely changed each year. Planning and work starts in the fall each year. They do not get the new front and murals done until late July--as you can see they are still working on the outside. We are moving on to Wall, SD today and then to Rapid City, SD Saturday. We had hoped to find cooler weather by now, but it is as hot if not hotter here than in Illinois--it was 102 Monday. We hope you are all staying cool back home.
