RV Trip Summer 2012 travel blog

We drove for 5 hours for another 325 miles today. It's very hot in the afternoons but the air conditioners in the RV work really well when we are stopped in a campground.

We are in Gulfport, MS which is a little ways east of New Orleans. After a dinner of shrimp and catfish at a local restaurant, we drove along the waterfront to see what it looks like since it was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. It still looks very sad as there are more empty lots than those with structures on them. Some beautiful homes have been repaired and there are a few new ones, but mostly the spaces are empty. A few casinos have been built.

Jerry and I came to this area in the mid-70s and the economy was struggling after another hurricane. Obviously, rebuilding may not be such a good idea.

Tomorrow is a shorter day - only 200 miles to Vicksburg. It feels good to be traveling again.

I will start taking photos either tomorrow or the next day.
