I'm really there!!

I left David and Gloria floating home on Monday the 25th and drove about 20 miles to Ainsworth State Park!! Big trip...and the first campground that was first come, first served. Plenty of sites open but in glancing at them, it looked like none of them were level. I decided to take a pull-thru site to give me a break from backing in and also a pull through is a good place to hook up the car without being in the road, worried about being in someone's way. And, yes, I had to level the MH by putting blocks like legos under one of the back wheels. Being by myself, it's hard to know when I'm on the blocks in just the right place. But I did pretty well and called it level!

This state park is on Historic Hwy 30, which runs parallel to I-84 and the Columbia River. Off Hwy. 30 are many waterfalls to stop, look at, hike to and take pictures of. The most popular are very crowded. I went to many of the falls on Weds. the 27th. I didn't do any hiking but enjoyed them from the bottom.

On Thursday, I decided to drive to Timberline Lodge at the base of Mt. Hood, elevation 11, 249'. It was a long drive but a beautiful one. The drive up the gorge along the river was beautiful and it wasn't raining!! The drive to Mt. Hood provided a variety of views of the mountain, most of which were prettier that being at the base of the mountain. There it was crowded and the snow pretty dirty. There were many young people skiing and snowboarding. Fun to watch up on the hill.

On the way back I stopped in Hood River, a small town that had lots of services. I bought a hanging basket of mixed colored flowers, million bells, that attract hummingbird. I just couldn't do without some flowers. So now I have my flower garden. I'll go back to Hood River tomorrow, Saturday, for various things: hair cut, Abby's special food, laundry and maybe groceries. See how much I can get in.

Oh, it's raining again. There were 2 days of sun/part sun and low 70's. Today was good until about 4PM so that's not bad. The temps are in the low 70's but it's humid. I'd forgotten what humidity was like and I didn't miss it. There's moss growing on all sides of the trees and there's moss hanging from the tree and pine branches.

I leave Sunday for a long day's travel to eastern Oregon. I was lucky to find a park with openings around the 4th of July. See you there!
