| Short travel day today from Hazen to Medora, ND. This was our first day actually traveling WITH the group instead of trying catching up. It was very warm and we knew it was going to get warmer because we were traveling down into a valley into Medora which is a very small town in western North Dakota. We were going to go by one of the 3 vistors center for the Theadore Roosevelt National Park so we decidied to pull in - check out the view and ...... get a stamp for the Pass Book !!!!!! We gained another hour - I think we left Hazen at 9am, traveled a couple of hours, and got to the new campground at 10am. good deal It was a VERY warm day made worse by being down in a valley - I felt like I was halfway to Hell. At least we have good electricity to run the ACs. Because of the heat, we didn't do much after we arrived - we drove through town which took about 5 minutes (not even one traffic light). We went to dinner at the Pitchfork Fondue - meal served cafeteria style after steaks cooked outside skewered on pitchforks. Kind of neat but VERY hot night ( yes, I am still whining). From there it was a short walk over to the show at the outdoor theater. It was about two stories down from the parking lot. They had an escalator - while riding down we all looked up and saw the elk on the 'hill' behind the theater. At first I thought it was fake - it just looked so perfect and majeestic. It wasn't (we do think they had bucket of feed up there to keep it there - LOL). It stayed there until a cowboy herded it away before the show started. Good, clean entertainment - singing, dancing, fiddling and live horses with a back drop of nature's wonder !!!! Home again at 11:30pm - very late for this little group (except me). |
