National Parks & Headwaters 2012 travel blog

Well, today was a day for leisure. We stopped at Sylvan Lake State Park last night. It is at 8600 ft. in the Rockies. We camped, did laundry, ate dinner, read a little while and went to bed. The night temperature was nice and cool. It was about 50º when we woke up. We took a hike around the lake this morning and Karen (don't you know!) fell down twice, tripping over tree roots (no surprise there), so I took the camera in my hand and told her if she fell again I was taking a picture of her. Wouldn't you know she didn't give me the opportunity to take that photo. Dang it!!!!

We left about 11:00 and drove east to make our way to Rocky Mountain NP. We drove along the Colorado Headwaters Scenic Byway until we got to Lake Granby. The weather has cooled a bit, it only got to 95º for a high temp, but we stayed above 7000 ft. all day. This evening we put our feet in the lake after giving our feet a pedicure by the picnic table and did more laundry, with no hookups, mind you. Now we are going to have dessert and get some rest. It doesn't get any better than this!

Tomorrow it is off to Rocky Mountain NP. We have reservations to stay there for the next 3 nights. We hope to get in lots of hiking and sight seeing in the cooler high elevations of the park. You can bet my camera will be ready for her next slow motion fall while tripping over tree roots. HEHEHEHEHEHE If she wasn't always looking up, she might actually see where her feet are and avoid tripping (and breaking bones in her arms).
