Off today to the area of Le Marche and the Adriatic coast. A lovely drive, we reach the beach at Elipidio by lunchtime. Megan and David have a swim – the water apparently quite warm. People everywhere cooking themselves in the sun. Umbrellas everywhere, and like in other parts, they belong to the attached restaurants.
We follow the coast for a while but only see the sea in patches so we head inland for our return drive. Quite rugged mountains here and, we can see from the signs that there would be quite a bit of snow in the winter.
The road winds around and through the mountains. Through the whole trip there have been massive tunnels (many four kms or longer) and very high bridges spanning the valleys in between. Massive infrastructure really and probably accounts for most of their debt with the EU. The traffic a little heavier here and not impressed when we come across a convoy of buses – don’t know why they all have to leave at the same time – many of roads are quite narrow.
We eventually reach magnificent land in the valleys. Hay being baled, wheat being harvested and sunflowers not quite yet in flower.
We finally reach our little home and another home cooked meal.
