Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska
Well, not too much to report for this day. It was a long haul for us today. We had a solid 10 hour drive with a few stops on the way. We were bummed to leave Chicago, because it was a beautiful city with a lot to do, but we will be back! We set out towards Nebraska, with one planned stop along the way--American Archeology in Le Claire, IA. It was a cool store, but it just goes to show how much bigger and better things seem on tv. The show gives the illusion that the shop is much bigger and for one reason Andrew and I both thought that the shop was located in a somewhat remote area, or at least on a large piece of property. Neither of which was the case. It is much smaller than it appears on tv and is set directly in back of a BP gas station, on a residential street. When you first walk in, you are in a little gift shop, where the sell various American Pickers gear from keychains and bumper sticker, to sorts and tote bags. When you walked to the right, that is where you walked into what is basically an auto garage, filled with all of their picks. We were really looking forward to picking something up, something small, but something nonetheless. But everything was jacked up in price! Posters that I am SURE they paid about $2 for, we're upwards of $75-$100! I'm glad we stopped and saw it, but I'll just stick to watching the show :). We grabbed a bite to eat at a local bar, which was actually pretty cool. They had games like Buck Hunter and a touch tunes music selector. Needless to say, we almost felt right at home. This place was cool because in the dining room, they had hundreds of ties hanging from the ceilings and walls and about 5,000 business cards all over the back wall. Of course, the ONE time both myself and Andrew we not carrying one of my business cards, we go to a place like this. The rest of the trip was relatively I eventful...minus the fact that once we got into western Iowa, we went through a humdinger of a thunderstorm, where I proceeded to hide in a blanket, while Andrew powered through the drive. We finally stopped for dinner in Omaha and it almost feels like we will never get to Lincoln. But as I sit in the car writing this, I know we are a mere 15 minutes away and very shortly we will be in bed enjoying a well deserved (especially Andrew, he is the best :)) nights sleep. Thank God the speed limit in Nebraska is 75, it just makes the ride so much easier, since we can get to our destination that much faster. That's all for now, tomorrow starts another long trek to Denver, but it will be well worth it, because we will be spending 2 days there with a dear old friend of mine from high school. Bonsoir ladies and gents.
