Hi, Everybody,

Coming to you from near Watson Lake, YT. We'd planned to stay in Watson Lake but didn't like the campgrounds there so drove a bit further and found a very nice, Good Sam's Campground, called Nugget City. There's a gift shop attached that's big on gold and jewelry...no we didn't buy anything. Anyway, it has clean showers and is a nice facility overall, even though it's actually a gravel pit with pine trees. However, the black flies are pestering as they would at home in May so we're mainly IN the trailer. No problem there.

We had a great day for animal viewing. Our first black bear was sighted at 8:30 after only 20 min on the road, from there until 3:00 we counted 9 just grazing and enjoying the sun and dandelions. Also saw a cow moose and her calf, she came a little "too close for comfort" to the truck. Next we saw a family of mt sheep, the ram ran up the slope but 2 ewes and a baby stayed where we could see them. Then came a small bison herd just lying along the roadside. These guys (and gals) looked REALLY healthy. Shiny coats, and beautiful heads unlike the scraggly, molting bests we saw in Yellowstone last year. Laker we saw another BIG buffalo at Contact Creek. Before him we saw a whole group of female mt sheep and lambs in the middle of the road yet (we waited for them to cross), near Muncho Lake.

Gorgeous scenery...we'd been told that this was one of the most beautiful stretches of the Alaska Highway. It didn't disappoint.

By the way, we had our first mishap yesterday although it was not unexpected. Tractor trailer went past and WHAM! rock hit the windshield, driver's side and yes, it did crack. Darn, I was so sure we'd be one of the few to miss this little treat of Alaska Highway travel. Well we didn't. Won't get it fixed until we get home unless it gets really a lot worse.

So that's about it for today. Off to Whitehorse tomorrow.

Take care,

Love,

Ingrid, Joe and Colden
