Today was kind of slow to develop. We left here about 11:00 to get some grub for the bus, but our first stop was Aunt Emma’s Pancake House for some breakfast. Always a good idea to go to the grocery store with a full stomach and I think you know why. Michele had a salsa omelet and a mango crepe that she really liked and since it was a pancake house, I had a bacon cheeseburger. Pancakes…yuk. From there we headed to Von’s – Safeway’s California edition – to restock the bus before we start our eastward trek tomorrow.
We got back about 1:30 and I did some RV maintenance tasks while MB paid some bills, then we left about 3:30 for our sightseeing trip of the day. We headed north on I-5 for a bit and then east to the Mission San Diego, which was the first Spanish Mission built in California in the late 1700’s. The complex was fully restored in 1931 to its current state but there are still parts in place that are original. We wandered around there for about an hour or so, then we headed downtown to get some dinner before the Padres/Rangers game at Petco Park.
We had heard that when the Marlin’s announcers are in town for games, they rave about the fish tacos at The Tin Fish near the stadium so we gave it a try. MB had a grilled swordfish platter that she said was good and I had the fried fish tacos. They were good, but nothing spectacular. We left there about 6:15 to head to Will Call to pick up our tickets that Mike had provided for us again. We got into the stadium and headed to the visitor’s bullpen and got to talk to Mike for a minute…we assured him we’re not stalking him but he might not be convinced – this is the third time he’s gotten us tickets since we left home back in March. We really appreciate it, but it seems he doesn’t have a good game when we see him so I think we will leave him alone for the rest of the trip. We got home about 10:00 and after a dog walk, an update and a cookie – or seven – it will be bedtime.
Tomorrow we are heading northeast towards Phoenix and if my aunt is still in town we will visit with her and Gene for awhile and probably go to a Diamondbacks game. The high temps in Phoenix are forecast to be from 108° to 113° all this week so that is something we are really looking forward to. I’m gonna guess we won’t spend a whole lot of time there – just a guess though.
