We had a wonderful day of site seeing today. We went up the coast 150 miles, we found many interesting sites. We did something that we have not done since we have been on the road WE STAYED OUT UNTIL 11:00 PM!!!!!!! I told Bob don’t tell Wendy she will tell us old people need to be home before dark!! Well I guess she will find out now!

We went in search of a couple more lighthouses: it’s always fun when you stumble across something that is so beautiful and unexpected. We drove up to Winchester Bay to visit the Umpqua lighthouse. We have seen several lighthouses and we have noticed that each has it own design; each one has it own character and story.

We enjoyed the whale watching overlook, we didn’t see any whale, the ocean was to ruff.

This is where we stumble across the most beautiful park. We were in search of the Cape Arago Lighthouse. We couldn’t find a road to get to it, so when all else fails STOP AND ASK FOR DIRECTIONS!!! The man told us that it was not accessible by land, he said drive on down the road and you could see it from the Shores Acres State Park. Wow what a view.

The wind was blowing about 30 mph. and the ocean was beautiful.

Description of park:

Shore Acres State Park is an Oregon State Park located on the Cape Arago Highway south of Coos Bay, Oregon. The park features 5 acres of formal gardens. During autumn, winter and spring, visitors gather on the tall sandstone cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean for storm watching and observation of the gray whale migration. Another seasonal attraction is the Shore Acres Holiday Lights, lasting from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, when the gardens are decorated with thousands of lights and illuminated sculptures. Shore Acres also includes a small beach on a secluded cove where elephant seals hang out. Shore Acres was originally an estate of the same name owned by Louis Simpson, a Coos County timber baron. After fire and financial losses devastated his estate holdings, Simpson sold the land to the State of Oregon for use as a park in 1942. The gardens Simpson developed, as well as one building, the gardener's cottage, remain as important features in the park.

This is a must see, we were too late to visit the garden. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
