Day 10 Our Genoa and Arenzano
We woke up early today at 6:30 and decided to head to Genoa, which is along the Mediterranean Sea. This drive from Laglio is about 2 hours. We had some breakfast at the apartment and then headed out about 9 am.
The first part of the drive to Genoa was not interesting as the landscape was quite flat and we were travelling along at freeways. I call them freeways but they are by no means free and there is usually a toll somewhere long the route. Today the tolls were not as expensive as our travels from Lyon. As we got closer to Genoa the mountains appeared and we saw more of the small villages in the distance.
We arrived in Genoa around 11 am after stopping at a rest area along the way. We grabbed an espresso and a crescent. While I should say Stephen ended up with 2 espressos and I decided to get a cappuccino after I tasted the espresso.!
We parked at a shopping mall as we could park there for free for 2 and ½ hours. We walked through the mall but did not find anything of interest so headed out to find the city centre. We started walking but the area was not that clean so we found a Holiday Inn and asked one of the hotel staff about the city. He told us to walk about 20 minutes and we would find the old city. We did this but we were not impressed with Genoa as it is a dirty city. We did have a sandwich in the old part of the village and then decided to head back to the car.
Stephen then asked what was next. I said I wanted to wade into the Mediterranean Sea. We drove to a small village outside of Genoa called Arenzano and guess what we found a beach!! I was able to get my toes wet. We walked a bit further and found the beach and we were able to lie in a beach chair and just rest. The sound of the waves and the cool breeze put us to sleep. We had a restful visit in Arenzano.
We left the Sea and headed back to the apartment but only after stopping at McDonald’s for a quick bite to eat!
On the way home we wanted to check in at home as once again we visited our local hangout, yeah you guessed it Henry’s Bar. We did contact with everyone at home and had a great chat and then we stayed at the Bar to watch the Italy and Spain football game. The game ended in a1-1 tie. This was great for Italy!!
We decided to have supper at the apartment and enjoyed a relaxing evening.
Ciao!
