Day 9 Visiting Bellagio and Lake Como

First town we stopped at on our journey was Argegno. We first thought about taking the ferry to Bellagio from this town but there was only a 3-hour limit for parking and after our experience the day before we did not want to risk getting another parking ticket. We wandered around the town and got a gelato, which was delicious, and Stephen took some pictures. There was not a lot to see in the town and after we talked to another tourist we decided to head up the road to another small town where we could catch the ferry.

We stopped in Cadenabbia as we could pay for parking for the day. We bought our ferry tickets and aboard the ferry in about 15 minutes. This was a great way to see some of the other small towns along Lake Como. We stopped in Menaggio and then to Varenna and to our final destination of Bellagio. Bellagio is known as the “Pearl of the Lake” as it has beautiful views and is a colourful village. There were many wonderful little shops. We did some shopping here and we also found a wine shop. We spoke with shop owners who recommended some wines for us to buy. So we have new wines to drink with our wine snob friends!!

We ate lunch at a little restaurant in Bellagio and enjoyed another fine Italian meal. I had pizza which was great but I must admit that I am now tired of pizza! Stephen enjoyed carbonna spaghetti.

We left Bellagio by the ferry after Stephen made me sprint to catch the ferry. We realized that we were waiting at the wrong spot. We did make the ferry and enjoyed a shorter ride back to Cadenabbia.

Stephen asked what I wanted to do next and I said we should visit Como. We drove around the lake and arrived in Como after an hour. We did stop at the apartment to drop off the wine. The City of Como was your typical city with a population of approximately 95,000. There was a parade in the middle of the city so we did not get out to walk around. Stephen said “So what next?” I said, “let’s go up there” and I pointed to the top of the mountain and we headed to Brunate. The drive up the mountain was awesome for me but Stephen was not too excited about all of those hairpin turns going up the mountain. Once we reached the top of the mountain the view of the City of Como was amazing!! We were surprised to find this village of Brunate as we were not sure if we could pull over anywhere to take pictures. We have attached a picture of the gondola that goes down the mountain. The view is spectular.

We left Brunate around 7 pm and then went to our local hang out “Henry’s Bar” so we could sent our daily trip update. While we were there we decided to have some supper and watch the Euro Cup.

We had another amazing day in Italy!
